Fall 2011 - Nelson Santos Da Graca

On September 3, 2011 the third Nicholas Perretti Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Nelson Santos Da Graca of Sweden. Nelson is a junior at Merrimack. His family is originally from Cape Verde but immigrated to Sweden, where Nelson was raised, to pursue more opportunities and a better life. Coach Martone describes Nelson as “a great student, personable, polite, and possesses tremendous moral and ethical standards.” Coach also says he is an outstanding soccer player and a “gentle giant” on the field. Nelson’s family lacks financial resources so they have never been able to visit him at Merrimack or watch their son play soccer on American turf. We feel that Nelson best emulates the qualities that Nicholas possessed and we are proud to award this scholarship to him.
